Sweet and Sour Chicken
original recipe: http://madeitateitlovedit.blogspot.com/2012/03/sweet-and-sour-chicken.html
Chicken Breading:
- 3-5 chicken breast
- salt and pepper
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/3 cup canola oil
Rinse chicken, trim off fat or extras and then cut into 1 inch cubes. season with salt and pepper. Dip chicken into cornstarch and coat all the way and then into eggs. Heat oil in large skillet. Cook chicken until browned. Place in baking dish. 3 chicken breasts can be in a 9x9 but 5 chicken breasts fits better in a 9x13.
Sauce:
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 4 Tablespoons ketchup
- 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
Whisk until smooth. Then pour evenly over chicken. Turn chicken so the sauce gets on both sides and then put in the oven at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. turn chicken and then cook for 15 more minutes.

ReplyDeleteI try for dinner to night and my whole family loves it. super easy to make. thank you
ReplyDeleteI have made this twice and sauce does not thicken, it is still tasty though.
ReplyDeleteMy sauce did not thicken...but I am thinking if it simmers while the chicken is browning it might thicken up. I'm going to try that next time. Other than that issue, the recipe was delicious.
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight- Awesome!!! The only thing I added was a little crushed red pepper!
ReplyDeleteThis was great :) just add a dash corn starch to the sauce and it thickness just right
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I made this, sauteed some broccoli, green bell peppers, and some cabbage (stuff i grabbed out of the fridge) and put it all on some rice. My picky family loved it! The sauce didn't look right but it thickend up quite nicely. This will definately be added to my fav recipes:)
ReplyDeleteI'm making this tonight with some rice. After reading the posts about the sauce, I'm going to add a little corn starch. ;)
ReplyDeleteI've made this a couple times and it was great both times. No trouble with the sauce not thickening. I used flour instead of corn starch the second time (I was out) and it tasted exactly the same. This recipe is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteI made this for church dinner tonite. They ate every bite. Husband and children loved it. Very moist and tasty. I did cut back on the vinegar just a little bit. Only had cider vinegar which worked well. Yummy!!
ReplyDeleteMy family is constantly asking me to make this. It is soooo delicious and easy. Thanks for the post!!
ReplyDeleteIt's in the oven now...looked a little watery at the 15 min mark, so I added cornstarch and stirred....we'll see!
ReplyDeleteI have made this many times, since the ingredients are something I always have, this is usually one of our "day before payday" meals when we are out of everything else. Not that that is a bad thing because this is delicious. We all love it. I make it like the recipe says. I have also made it with chicken thighs and boneless, skinless breasts. Most of the time I don't even bread them. Just the sauce right on the chicken in the oven. I broil it for a few minutes before taking it out too to make it nice and caramelized on top.
